When I was a kid there was a school lunch slogan "You are what you eat." If that were true what are you: a Big Mac or a smoothie? Lets look at a typical fast food meal: Big Mac, fries and a soda. It is processed, full of fat, sugar, preservatives, and flavorings. A guy, who despised fast food, was brought a Big Mac. He forgot about it for a week or so. Then he pulled it out and it looked just the same. It was a little harder, but no rotting or growth on it. He has now kept it for over seven years, to show his students. Fries are made from potatoes. Although they are a vegetable they are full of starch and simple carbohydrates that spike blood sugar. It is fried in hydrogenated oils and full of natural flavoring another word for MSG. MSG is a fattening addictive excito-toxin. Liquids are very easy for the body to process they quickly go into the blood stream and enter each of our cells. So if you are drinking soda you are quickly adding sugar to your body. Soda is also very acidic. In fact I have read that Coke can dissolve nails. What happens if you leave most food out too long? Parasites such as maggots and mold begin to grow on it. They thrive off of other living organisms. Nutrition from food can and will be extracted by our bodies or parasites to help them grow. So foods that can be left out without anything growing on it obviously do not have any nutrition. Green smoothies on the other hand are typically full of vegetables and fruit. If you want to make them even more nutritious you can add yogurt, nuts, tofu, wheat germ, etc. Smoothies could be the best source of nutrition and they are full of fiber. It is a great way to get your fruits and vegetables without adding all of the fattening salad dressing or toppings. Nutrition comes from living plants and animals. Fruits and vegetables are the best. They are lower in fat and are easier to digest. Cooking depletes vitamins so the closer it is too raw the healthier. Smoothies are full of raw ingredients, so what could be healthier? Homemade soups are a close second in nutritional value since boiling captures most of the escaping nutrients in the broth. Salads are good except for the salad dressing. Most store bought salad dressing is full of fat, sugar, and preservatives. Unprocessed foods of any kind are more nutritious. We must give our body something to work with if we want it to take care of us. Most of us are not underfed, but we are under nourished. Our bodies get sick trying to deal with all of the unhealthy substances we take in. To maintain or restore our health we need to nourish our cells. We can either eat mostly raw foods, in abundance, or we can supplement. However not all supplements are created equal. I have heard that some tablets never fully dissolve. That may be because they are either synthetic or full of binders and fillers to solidify them. Synthetic vitamins are another way of substituting nature with a poor imitation: like the Big Mac. If it's not natural it's not good for you! The best supplements come from whole foods and are in a liquid form. It is the plant substance without the fiber. This way our bodies can quickly get the nutrition to each cell via the blood stream. Say you are driving your nice new BMW and it starts to slow down and sputter to a stop. It is not unlike our body getting sick and tired from not getting what it needs. Now, would you feed it a Big Mac or a green smoothie?
